IXTAbox begins in Mexico - where we fell in love so much with a legend that we climbed it, hiked it, ran it, named our dog after it and now our invention. 

This legend is about the two snow-capped volcanoes located outside of Mexico City; one is the sleeping volcano Iztaccihuatl and the other is the ever-smoking volcano, Popocatepetl. 

The legend says that in a time when the Aztecs dominated the valley; the warrior, Popocatepetl and the chief's daughter, Princess Iztaccihuatl were deeply in love.

The young warrior was sent out to war under the promise of marrying the princess upon his return. However, in his absence, the princess is told the lie that Popocatepetl died in combat. Crushed and overwhelmed by sorrow, Iztaccihuatl died. 

Upon his return, Popocatepetl finds out about the tragic death of his beloved princess, and with a broken heart, sat by her side, where he still waits crying and erupting grey clouds of smoke and burning lava.

Enchanted by our adventures climbing and hiking Iztacihuatl in Mexico we named our dog Ixta, borrowing the first part of the name and just replacing the “Z” with an “X”. Our sturdy German Shepherd, is an experienced long-distance runner who loves snow and is happy to tow a sledge. 

In high spirits, we returned to Sweden and took on the adventure and outdoor Scandinavian lifestyle. With three children, a big dog, snowboards, at least two pairs of skis for everyone, a kite in case there is wind, ski boots, garments and other supplies. 

Suddenly we were in desperate need of a smart and sustainable way of bringing all our gear with us. And to complicate things, we started driving an electric car with falcon doors, making a roof box no longer an option. 

Out of need - and because Carl is an engineer - we invented and developed IXTAbox.  

We immediately noticed a change in lifestyle for the better. Life became easier and the stress of fitting everyone in the car went away. This sparked the idea of bringing IXTAbox to more people, as others could benefit as much from the box as we did.
