IXTAbox begins in Mexico - where we fell in love so much with a legend that we climbed it, hiked it, ran it, named our dog after it and now our invention. 

This legend tells the story of two snow-capped volcanoes near Mexico City: Iztaccihuatl, the sleeping volcano, and Popocatepetl, the ever-smoking volcano.

According to the legend, during the time when the Aztecs ruled the valley, a brave warrior named Popocatepetl fell deeply in love with Princess Iztaccihuatl, the chief's daughter. The two shared a strong bond, and before Popocatepetl left for war, they promised to marry upon his return.

While Popocatepetl was away, a false rumor spread that he had been killed in battle. Heartbroken by the news, Princess Iztaccihuatl succumbed to grief and passed away.

When Popocatepetl returned and learned of her tragic death, his heart shattered. He stayed by her side, mourning his lost love. To this day, Popocatepetl continues to weep, releasing clouds of smoke and lava, forever guarding his beloved princess.

In high spirits, we returned to Sweden and embraced the outdoor Scandinavian lifestyle. With three children, a big dog, snowboards, multiple pairs of skis, a kite for windy days, ski boots, and all the gear that comes with it, we quickly realized we needed a smart and sustainable way to transport everything.

To add to the challenge, we started driving an electric car with falcon doors, making a traditional roof box impractical. Out of necessity—and with Carl’s engineering skills—we invented and developed the IXTAbox.

The change was immediate. Our lifestyle became more streamlined, and the stress of fitting everything and everyone into the car disappeared. Realizing how much IXTAbox improved our lives, we knew others could benefit from it as well.
