The Mexican legend that inspired us.
There is a legend among thousands of legends. This legend is from Mexico - where we fell in love with it so much that we climbed it, hiked it, ran it, named our dog after it and now our invention!
It is the legend about the two snow-capped volcanoes located outside of Mexico City, almost 6000 meters high. One is the sleeping volcano Iztaccihuatl and the other is the ever puffing and smoking volcano Popocatepetl.
Thousands of years ago, when the Aztec dominated the valley, there was a couple deeply in love. It was the warrior Popocatepetl and the chief's daughter, Iztaccihuatl. The young warrior was sent out to war with the promise to marry the princess upon his return. Jealousy brought a lie to the princess that Popocatepetl had died in combat; she was crushed and overwhelmed by sorrow and died. The young warrior returned to find out the tragic death of his beloved princess. With a broken heart he sat down by her side and is still sitting there crying and erupting grey clouds of smoke and burning lava. She sleeps silently next to him.
If you look carefully you can see that the volcano Iztaccihuatl has the form of a woman laying down and Popocatepetl the head of a warrior. They are still there.
Enchanted by our adventures in Mexico we named our dog Ixta, borrowing the first part of the name Iztaccihuatl, just replacing the “Z” to an “X”. The dog is a sturdy German Shepherd, an experienced long-distance runner who loves snow and is happy to tow a sled.
Our adventurous and outdoor lifestyle paved the way.
In high spirits, we returned to Sweden and took on the adventure and outdoor Scandinavian lifestyle. With three children, a big dog, snowboards, at least two pairs of skis for everyone, a kite in case there is wind, ski boots, garments and other supplies, we needed a smart and sustainable way of bringing the gear with us.
Now driving an electric car with falcon doors, the solution of a roof box was no longer an option. Out of need (and because Carl is an engineer), we invented and developed the IXTAbox.
We noticed that thanks to the location of the box behind the car, rather than on the top, any additional electricity consumption was hardly noted. In addition, the gear was easier and faster to throw in and take out of the conveniently placed box, as well as to store gear in at home.
We quickly realized that others could benefit as much from the box as we did, and we therefore decided to start our family business. We hope you enjoy your IXTAbox as much as we do! Happy adventuring!
